Tees Cottage Pumping Station

From 1849 Tees Cottage Pumping Station revolutionized water supply in Darlington and Teesside by offering cleaner, piped water to inhabitants who had previously relied on wells and rainwater tubs. At The Festival of Ingenuity you will be able to learn more about this wonderful piece of Darlington's heritage which is still pumping water from the River Tees using equipment which is over 100 years old - though it no longer supplies the town's water!

A1 Steam Locomotive Trust

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust are the builders, owners and operators of new steam locomotive 60163 Tornado, a class A1 Pacific. Following on from the success of Tornado, the Trust are now building a second locomotive, a Gresley class P2, No.2007 Prince of Wales.

On Saturday 9th July The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust are throwing open the doors of the Darlington Locomotive Works on Hopetown Lane for free* and welcoming visitors to see the locomotive and to learn more about both the building of Prince of Wales and the plans for the future. David Elliott, the design engineer for the project will be giving short presentations throughout the day which will be both informing and exciting.

Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to see a piece of modern history!

Modus Seabed Intervention

A subsea company 25 miles from the nearest coast? Now that's ingenious! 

Modus Seabed Intervention provide Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) and Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to the energy, telecommunications and defense sectors for a range of activities.

At the Festival, one of their ROVs will be towering over the crowds on the Market Square so make sure you visit on Friday or Saturday to see this amazing machine!
